It was around 1978 at the age of 21 that I began to search for the truth of God’s Word with a Strong’s Concordance and Dr. Bullinger’s Companion Bible. I had read the Bible 2-3 times but it didn’t make sense to me and I am certain the Lord heard my yearning heart for a better understanding of His Word.  Back then I certainly wasn’t learning much from the Sunday school Methodist booklet which contained at best the moral of the story and a few Scripture passages to ponder. I had questions that weren’t being answered by my Sunday school teacher who had 30 years experience but I was determined to find the truth.

With the help of beginning studies written by Oscar Bowser and Dale Hand (given to me by his daughter who was also searching), I began a life-long quest of understanding God’s Word. Bible periodicals such as Truth for Today and Plainer Words (particularly the Bible study chart found here) gave me more insight into the Word as never before and of particular importance, the key, the Bible study rule of “rightly dividing the Word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15).Through these studies and with the help of the Holy Spirit, a fog of confusion began to lift and an exciting journey of discovery began. With the help of the Lord and the right key at hand I had a better understanding of the Book of books, which filled my heart with joy!

Fast forward 20 years later to 1999, after the purchase of the software program Frontpage 98 and with the help of a few technical books, I learned how to create a website and began to add the many studies I had collected throughout my journey.

In the year 2000 I purchased the bibleunderstanding.com website and slowly uploaded studies one by one to the server. Soon after that with permission from John Porter, (a trustee of the Berean Publishing Trust), I added Mr. Welch’s written material, audios, and other recordings by Stuart Allen and various teachers. The recordings by Mr. Welch and other teachers were made possible by Fred Doak, (the father of Jeff Doak of bereantruth.com), who painstakingly transferred Mr. Welch’s recordings to the MP3 format which readied them for the Internet. Before long over 2000 audios were placed on the Web for anyone in the world to freely download.

My prayer for each person who yearns for a better understanding of God’s Word, that you will search for the treasures found herein as a Berean, with an open Bible and with prayer for understanding that only our Heavenly Father can provide (Eph. 1:15-20).

Should you write with questions, I might supply you with a few tools but you must be the one to do the hard work. After all, true riches aren’t usually found on top of the ground but requires a bit of digging. May you find joy in the treasure of the Word as I have!
